Missions

At Colona United Methodist Church we actively support local, regional and global ministries!

Once a quarter we prepare, deliver and serve a meal at Christian Care Center, a homeless shelter located in Rock Island.

Each first Sunday of the month and at critical times throughout the year we collect nonperishable food and supplies for the Colona Food Pantry.

Chillin For a Good Cause

Adopt a penguin the weekends of June 18 & 25!  Cost is $5 each and the proceeds collected will be sent through the United Methodist Church to ZOE: Helping Children Help Themselves!  There are well over 100 million orphans and vulnerable children in the countries where ZOE serves, living and dying in extreme poverty.  These children are often socially and spiritually dislocated leading to sexual, and labor exploitation, disease, starvation and death.  Communities are often overwhelmed by the problem of orphans who are begging for food and/or work, sometimes they steal to survive, and who are often dirty and sick.

ZOE seeks to realize a glimpse of God’s reign on earth through empowering the most vulnerable of God’s children physically, psychologically and spiritually.  After three years, children in ZOE program are self-sufficient on an upward trajectory financially, socially, and understand God’s love for them.  We have now been able to observe ZOE groups which have been graduated up to 7 years and in almost every case, the groups continue meeting together and supporting one another to continue realizing their dreams.  Additionally, as soon as these children begin to stabilize their own lives, we see them bringing other orphans into their groups and replicating their own empowerment with others.  Adopt a penguin and help show God’s love to these vulnerable children!

We also assist United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe. UMCOR’s work includes programs and projects in disaster response, health, sustainable agriculture, food security, relief supplies, and more.  For more information click here
